NIHR Biomedical Research Units and CentresThere are 11 Biomedical Research Centres which drive progress on innovation and translational research in biomedicine into NHS practice. There are 20 Biomedical Research Units which undertake translational clinical research in priority areas of high disease burden and clinical need

NIHR Clinical Research Networks (CRN)The Clinical Research Networks support clinical research in the NHS in England and make it possible for all patients and health professionals across England to participate in relevant clinical trials.

NIHR Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC)There are 9 CLAHRCs which are collaborative partnerships between a university and the surrounding NHS organisations. They undertake high-quality applied health research focused on the needs of patients and support the translation of research evidence into practice in the NHS.

NIHR Research Design ServicesThere are 10 Research Design Services based around the country. They support researchers to prepare proposals for submission to NIHR and other national, peer-reviewed funding competitions for applied health or social care research by providing expert advice on research design and methodology.
