What people will learn

• How the Fistula plays a massive part in the world of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
• How important and valued the Fistula is to renal patients, both for their well-being and psychologically
• For all healthcare staff to have empathy, understanding and knowledge that Fistula care need to be taken more seriously, not just in renal specialty, but across the medical profession
• Medical professionals to collaborate with patients for a better understanding of Fistula and how to improve things
• The importance of the Fistula Awareness Band in the renal patients world.

Issues raised for discussion

• The Fistula and the importance of patient care from pre-fistula operation (vascular), post fistula operation (vascular), pre-dialysis (pre-dialysis nurses), post-transplant (transplant team) and what people’s experiences have been documented
• The psychological aspects of a patient on a day-to-day basis living with a Fistula and people’s perception of what this can be and the reality
• The importance of continuous education to all Medical Staff on the Fistula and to take this insight away and bring into their arena
• The Fistula Awareness Band and its use and comfort blanket for the patient.
