This guidance was produced following an extensive review of the literature and visits to case sites. Its aim is to assist in the development of user involvement in research and user-controlled research throughout the Mental Health Research Network. The guidance contains practical pointers and suggestions for involving service users in research under the following headings:

  2. Capacity building 
  3. Identifying priorities
  4. Commissioning research
  5. Ethical approval and research ethics committees
  6. Undertaking research
  7. Dissemination and implementation
  8. User controlled research.
