Abstract:

Aim: To explore current approaches to consumer involvement in US and international organisations commissioning systematic reviews.

Methods: Interviews with staff and review of organisations' websites.

Findings: Seven of the 17 organisations included in this study involved consumers either at a programme level within the organisation or in individual reviews. A variety of approaches are used and different kinds of consumers are recruited. However, there has been little formal evaluation of the impact of this involvement.
