Abstract:

This article reports on the findings from a review of the literature reporting on the impact of patient and public involvement (PPI) on health and/or social care research. The positive impacts identified included:

  • user-focused research objectives
  • user-relevant research questions
  • user-friendly information, questionnaires and interview schedules
  • appropriate recruitment strategies
  • user-focused interpretation of data
  • enhanced implementation and dissemination of study results.

Some of the challenging aspects of involvement are also discussed.
