Abstract: This article reports on the impact of a Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) that was set up to inform the development of the PRIMROSE project. The project aims to improve the physical health of people with severe mental illness through a GP-practice based intervention. The LEAP is made up of 27 service users and carers with experience of mental illness. It is supported by a service user researcher employed by Rethink Mental Illness. In the first year of its activity, the LEAP has: • identified questions for a systematic review of the literature • informed the development of the intervention • shaped the topic guide for focus group discussions • convinced the project team of the value of running a separate focus group with carers • identified real-life barriers and facilitators to implementing the intervention.
