Abstract: Aim: To review current practices for engaging stakeholders in prioritising research topics. Methods: A review of the literature and interviews with research organisations in the USA, Canada and UK, and interviews with staff in eight research centres in the USA and Canada that engage stakeholders in systematic reviews. Findings/ recommendations: The authors have pulled together all the evidence from these sources to produce: (a) a checklist for reporting stakeholder engagement; (b) a series of recommendations for good practice in stakeholder engagement in prioritising topics for research.
