Abstract: Aim: To evaluate the consumer involvement activities carried out by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) :Children or with the support of the Network in 2013-14. Methods: The evaluators analysed the monitoring data from consumer involvement activities in the Network, and from feedback forms from parents involved in Clinical Studies Groups. They also developed ten case studies of consumer involvement through telephone interviews with researchers and/ or participants. Findings/ recommendations: The learning from the case studies highlighted a number of important aspects of good practice that might be usefully shared across the Network. These included: organising meetings around young people’s schedules; making good use of the involvement leads and their expertise; ensuring the approach to involvement suits the purpose and aim of the involvement; managing group sizes and participants engagement. The evaluators also made recommendations as to how to improve the monitoring process to support future evaluations.
